    What Is Smartwater?

Smartwater is produced by Glacéau (a Coca-Cola subsidiary). It starts as municipal water and is purified through vapor distillation — essentially distilling water to remove everything — before adding back a proprietary electrolyte blend (calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium bicarbonate) for taste.

    Why Smartwater has a pH of 6.5 – 7.5

    Vapor distillation

Distillation produces near-zero-mineral water with a pH close to neutral. The electrolyte add-back nudges pH slightly above 7 in some batches.

    Added electrolytes

Calcium chloride, magnesium chloride and potassium bicarbonate provide light buffering and a clean, slightly mineral taste.

    Clean taste profile

Low TDS (~40 mg/L) and near-neutral pH together produce the soft, almost flavorless character Smartwater is known for.

    Is Smartwater safe to drink?

Yes. Smartwater's pH 6.5–7.5 range lies in the middle of the regulator-recommended drinking-water band. Safe and consistent.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is Smartwater alkaline?

Smartwater is generally neutral to slightly alkaline (pH 6.5–7.5). It is not a high-pH alkaline water like Essentia.

Is Smartwater the same as distilled water?

It starts as distilled water but has electrolytes added back, so it is not pure distilled by the time you drink it.

What's the pH of Smartwater Alkaline?

The Smartwater Alkaline variant is reformulated to pH 9.0+, separate from regular Smartwater.
