    Acidic

Almost always sparkling — CO₂ forms carbonic acid that drops pH below 7.

    Neutral

Right around pure water (pH 7). The middle ground of still spring waters.

    Alkaline

Bicarbonate-rich waters that buffer toward the alkaline end of the scale.

    Strongly Alkaline

High-bicarbonate or ionised waters — the most alkaline natural mineral waters.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the ideal pH for drinking water?

The EPA recommends a pH between 6.5 and 8.5 for tap water. Most popular bottled waters fall between 6.5 and 8.0. There is no clinical evidence that a slightly higher or lower pH is meaningfully better for healthy adults.

Why do sparkling waters have a lower pH?

Dissolved CO₂ forms carbonic acid, which pushes pH down. A still mineral water at pH 7.6 may measure 5.5–6.0 once carbonated — the same water, just with carbonation chemistry layered on top.

Does alkaline water actually neutralise stomach acid?

Your stomach maintains pH 1.5–3.5 by secreting fresh hydrochloric acid as needed. Any neutralising effect from drinking high-pH water is brief and clinically minor for healthy people.
