Bottled Water Review

Acqua Panna Review: Source, Minerals, pH, Taste, Pricing and Alternatives

Acqua Panna is a still natural mineral water from the Tuscan Apennines, owned by Sanpellegrino Group (Nestlé). It is the still-water counterpart to S.Pellegrino and is one of the most poured still waters in fine-dining restaurants worldwide.

The water originates on the Villa Panna estate north of Florence, where it slowly filters through clay and sandstone for around 14 years before bottling at source.

This review covers Acqua Panna's source, mineral profile, pH, taste, packaging, pricing and the situations where it shines versus other premium still waters.

    Source

Acqua Panna is bottled at the Villa Panna estate in the Mugello area of Tuscany. The estate is owned and protected by Sanpellegrino Group, which controls the watershed and bottles the water at source under Italian natural mineral water rules.

The combination of the limestone and sandstone aquifer plus the slow underground journey gives Acqua Panna its silky, soft character.

    pH Level

Acqua Panna sits around pH 8.0, slightly alkaline. That helps explain its smooth, non-bitter taste and makes it a natural choice for pairing with delicate foods and wines.

    Taste

Acqua Panna is famously soft, round and almost sweet on the palate. Low mineral intensity means it does not interfere with food or wine flavors, which is why it is the default still pour alongside S.Pellegrino on fine-dining tables.

    Pros

    • Silky, soft mouthfeel ideal for fine dining and wine pairing.
    • Slightly alkaline pH around 8.0.
    • Bottled at source in protected Tuscan estate.
    • Available in classic glass and PET formats.
    • Consistent global distribution via Sanpellegrino.

    Cons

    • Low mineral content — not a substitute for high-mineral waters.
    • Premium pricing, especially in glass.
    • Glass bottles are heavier to ship.
    • Limited large-format options for households.
