Aluminum Bottled Water Brands
Aluminum is the most-recycled beverage container on the planet. A handful of water brands have built their entire identity around it — some in single-use cans, some in refillable bottles.
Why aluminum
Aluminum is infinitely recyclable with no loss in quality, and about 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use. U.S. aluminum can recycling rates sit around 45% — three times the PET plastic bottle rate.
The brands
- Open Water — Still and sparkling in slim aluminum bottles and cans, BPA-free liner.
- Liquid Death — Austrian mountain water in 16 oz / 19.2 oz cans; the brand that mainstreamed canned water.
- PATHWATER — Refillable, screw-cap aluminum bottle designed to be reused dozens of times.
- Proud Source — Single-use aluminum bottle with naturally alkaline Idaho spring water.
- Ever & Ever — Aluminum bottles in still, sparkling and alkaline variants.
- Mananalu — Reusable aluminum bottle backed by Jason Momoa, focused on plastic reduction in Hawaii.
The catch
Aluminum's per-bottle production footprint is higher than PET plastic. Its environmental advantage only materializes if the bottle is actually recycled or, better, refilled. Buying aluminum and throwing it in the trash is worse than buying plastic and recycling it.
Frequently asked questions
Do aluminum bottles affect the taste?
All food-grade aluminum bottles have a polymer liner that prevents the water from contacting the metal. Taste differences vs glass or PET are negligible in blind tests.
Is the liner BPA-free?
All major aluminum water brands disclose BPA-free liners, typically using acrylic or polyester-based coatings.
