    Magnesium-Rich Water

Magnesium-rich water — magnesiumreiches Wasser in German — is bottled water with a meaningful amount of naturally occurring magnesium. Natural mineral waters are usually the best place to look.

    What is magnesium in water?

Magnesium is a naturally occurring mineral found in some underground sources. As water moves through rock layers it absorbs magnesium along with calcium, bicarbonate and sodium. Amounts vary widely by source.

    How magnesium affects taste

Magnesium gives water a firm, mineral, slightly crisp character. Balanced with calcium and bicarbonate it feels refreshing; in high amounts the water tastes stronger than ordinary spring or purified water.

    Magnesium-rich vs regular bottled water

Not all bottled water is high in magnesium. Purified water often has minerals removed. Natural mineral water can carry significantly more — check the label for magnesium in mg/L.

    Kinds of mineral water

    • Calcium-rich
    • Magnesium-rich
    • Bicarbonate-rich
    • Low-sodium
    • High-TDS
    • Still and sparkling

    Who might choose it

Drinkers who like a mineral-forward taste, prefer natural mineral water over purified, or want to compare brands by composition rather than label design.
