Liquid Death Water Review: Source, Cans, Minerals, Pricing and Alternatives
Liquid Death is a Los Angeles-based water brand that packages still and sparkling mountain water in tallboy aluminum cans, sourced from the Austrian Alps for international distribution.
The brand is built around a heavy-metal, anti-plastic identity — but underneath the marketing, the still water is a genuine European mountain water and the sparkling is naturally mineralized and force-carbonated.
This review covers Liquid Death's source, mineral profile, pH, packaging, flavored variants, pricing and where it sits versus other can-format and Alpine waters.

Packaging and Sustainability
Liquid Death's defining feature is the aluminum tallboy can. Aluminum is infinitely recyclable with high real-world recycling rates compared with PET, which is the brand's main sustainability pitch.
Cans also chill faster, block all light, and look at home in bars and venues that don't want plastic bottles on the floor.
Taste
The still Mountain Water is clean and slightly mineral-forward with the rounded mouthfeel typical of Alpine water. The sparkling is crisp with moderate carbonation. Flavored sparkling variants (Mango Chainsaw, Severed Lime, etc.) use natural flavors with zero sugar.
Pros
- Infinitely recyclable aluminum cans — strong sustainability story.
- Genuine Alpine source for the original Mountain Water.
- Moderate calcium and magnesium for a single-serve still water.
- Strong sparkling and flavored lineup with zero sugar.
- Excellent for events, bars and plastic-free venues.
Cons
- More expensive per ounce than most bottled water.
- Cans cannot be resealed.
- Carbon footprint of trans-Atlantic shipping for the Austrian-sourced water.
- Lower minerals than dedicated mineral waters like Gerolsteiner.
