    Glass Bottled Water Brands

Glass keeps water tasting like water and recycles infinitely — but it's heavy, and shipping that weight long distances drives up the carbon footprint dramatically. Here's the full glass-bottled landscape and how to think about it.

    Premium still in glass

    • Mountain Valley Spring (Arkansas) — iconic green glass since 1871
    • Acqua Panna (Italy)
    • Voss (Norway)
    • Saratoga Spring (New York)
    • Evian (France) — glass line for restaurants
    • FIJI Water — limited glass formats
    • Vichy Catalan, Borjomi, Gerolsteiner — also widely sold in glass

    Sparkling in glass

    • S.Pellegrino, Perrier, Acqua Panna Sparkling
    • Gerolsteiner, Borjomi, Vichy Catalan
    • Ferrarelle, San Benedetto, Lurisia
    • Topo Chico (glass returnable in Mexico)

    The sustainability trade-off

Glass is fully recyclable and the most inert beverage container. But producing a glass bottle takes 2-3× the energy of an equivalent PET bottle, and shipping it adds another 5-10× the transport emissions per liter. Glass wins when refilled (returnable systems common in Europe), and loses badly when shipped intercontinentally and trashed.
